How to Get Tier Tested on MCTiers

Every tier on MCTiers is earned in a tier test: a fight against one of a gamemode's testers, who then places you somewhere between High Tier 1 (HT1) and Low Tier 5 (LT5). Tests happen in-game on the MCTiers server, play.mctiers.gg. This guide walks through the whole process, from joining the server to the moment your tier shows up on the rankings.

1. Join the MCTiers server

Add play.mctiers.gg to your server list. Java Edition players can join on any version from 1.21 - 26.3. Bedrock Edition players on Windows, phones and tablets can join too, using port 19132. The server IP page has step-by-step instructions for both.

2. Pick the gamemode you want to be ranked in

MCTiers ranks players in eight gamemodes, and each one is tested separately: Vanilla (Crystal PvP), UHC, Pot, NethOP, SMP, Sword, Axe and Mace. A tier in one gamemode says nothing about the others, so start with the one you play most. You can get tested in more gamemodes later, and every tier you hold adds points to your overall ranking.

Type /tiertest in chat and choose the gamemode from the menu. Each gamemode has its own testers and its own official kit; you can see the kit under Information on that gamemode's tier list, for example the Crystal PvP tier list or the UHC tier list.

3. Choose your region and join the queue

Testing happens by region, so you're matched with a tester near you. After picking a gamemode you choose your region and join that gamemode's testing queue; your position is shown on screen while you wait. MCTiers tracks these regions:

  • North America (NA)
  • Europe (EU)
  • South America (SA)
  • Australia (AU)
  • Middle East (ME)
  • Asia (AS)
  • Africa (AF)

4. Fight your tester

When a tester in your region is free, you're teleported to a private arena and given the gamemode's official kit. The format depends on the gamemode. Play your best: the tester decides your tier based on the whole test, not just whether you win.

After the test

Your new tier is added to your MCTiers profile and appears on that gamemode's tier list; search your username at the top of any page (press / to jump to the search box). Your tier is also worth points: HT1 is worth 60, LT5 is worth 1, and everything in between is listed in Minecraft PvP Tiers Explained. Those points add up across all gamemodes and decide your place on the overall leaderboard and your title, which is covered in MCTiers Points and Titles.

After a test there's a cooldown before you can retest in the same gamemode. Typing /tiertest shows when you can queue again.

Tips before you queue

  • Practise with the official kit from the gamemode's Information tab, not your own kit.
  • Test in the gamemode you're strongest in first; one high tier is worth more points than several low ones.
  • Queue at a time when you can stay online, so you don't miss your turn.
  • Look at who holds the tier you're aiming for on the gamemode's tier list to see the level you need.
  • Open testing weekends on the events page have extra testers online, so queues move faster.
