Minecraft PvP Tiers Explained: What HT1 to LT5 Mean

If you've seen players with HT1 or LT3 next to their name, those are tiers from a Minecraft PvP tier list like MCTiers. A tier is a skill rating for one gamemode, given after a tier test. Here's how to read them.

Five tiers, each split into High and Low

Each gamemode ranks players in five tiers, and Tier 1 is the best. Every tier is split in two: High (HT) and Low (LT). So HT1 means High Tier 1, the highest rank a player can hold, and LT5 means Low Tier 5, the lowest. From best to worst, the full order is:

HT1 → LT1 → HT2 → LT2 → HT3 → LT3 → HT4 → LT4 → HT5 → LT5

On every gamemode's tier list the five tiers are shown as columns, from Tier 1 on the left to Tier 5 on the right, and players with a high tier are listed above players with a low tier in the same column. See it on the Sword tier list or the Pot PvP tier list.

How many points each tier is worth

Every tier is worth points, and the gap between tiers grows quickly near the top. A single HT1 is worth more than an LT2 and an HT2 together:

TierNamePoints
HT1High Tier 160
LT1Low Tier 145
HT2High Tier 230
LT2Low Tier 220
HT3High Tier 310
LT3Low Tier 36
HT4High Tier 44
LT4Low Tier 43
HT5High Tier 52
LT5Low Tier 51

Points from every gamemode are added together into one total, which decides your place on the overall Minecraft PvP rankings. The full breakdown is in MCTiers Points and Titles.

Tiers are per gamemode

A tier only covers one gamemode. A player can be HT1 in Crystal PvP and LT4 in Mace, and both tiers count. MCTiers has eight gamemodes: Vanilla (Crystal PvP), UHC, Pot, NethOP, SMP, Sword, Axe and Mace.

Peak tiers

Your peak tier is the highest tier you've reached in a gamemode. If your current tier is lower than your peak, your profile shows the peak (for example "Peak HT2") and the peak is what counts for points. Dropping a tier doesn't take points away from what you've already earned.

Retired tiers

A retired player no longer competes in that gamemode. They're removed from the gamemode's tier list, but the tier stays on their profile, marked as retired, and it still counts toward their overall points.

How to get a tier

Tiers come from tier tests on the MCTiers server: join play.mctiers.gg, type /tiertest, pick a gamemode and your region, and fight a tester in a private arena. The full process is in How to Get Tier Tested on MCTiers.
